About Us

Living with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Fresh Start Clubhouse emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and empower people living with mental illness, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2000, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas and a strong foundation of community.

Statement on Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Fresh Start Clubhouse is an organization that serves people from Washtenaw County who have serious mental illness. Washtenaw County is inherently a diverse community, and the population that Fresh Start Clubhouse serves is likewise diverse. In our efforts to support the Fresh Start Clubhouse and its members, the Board of Directors asserts a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We do this through the following principles:

  •  The Board of Directors is committed to promoting diversity in the makeup of the Board of Directors and encouraging the Clubhouse to similarly promote diversity in recruiting members and staff.

  • The Board of Directors does not discriminate on the basis of race; ethnicity; national origin; religion; age; gender identity and gender expression; sexual orientation; socioeconomic status; veteran status; and ability, especially in regards to mental health diagnoses.

  • The Board of Directors seeks to foster a community in which differences are welcomed, differing perspectives are respectfully heard, and each individual feels a sense of belonging.
